Molly Wizenberg is a freelance writer and photographer based in Seattle. She writes the blog Orangette, and her first book, A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table, was published this month by Simon & Schuster. Her ideal day includes cake.

on my nightstand:

am currently loving:

  • Gin and tonic
  • My dog, who sneezes when he gets excited about something
  • David Byrne
  • Nina Simone’s “Sinnerman”
  • A midnight blue dress that my mother bought for me
  • Friends who drop by unannounced

what inspires you about spring?

  • Opening the windows
  • Blossoming trees
  • Feeling warm from head to toe for the first time in months

what are three constants in your day?

  • A bowl of my homemade granola, with milk
  • Washing dishes
  • Going to bed too late

three dishes that you find yourself cooking over and over:

  • Kale, sauteed with olive oil and salt, finished with a squeeze of lemon
  • Homemade granola with coconut, almonds, and chocolate
  • Scrambled eggs with the tiniest splash of cream

  1. I love the tiny moments captured in your photographs. Seriously awesome taste in books and those are some of the best reasons for spring to be sure.

  2. what a perfect spot to stop by on a sunday. gorgeous photos, molly. and i love your lists, great stuff here! thanks sheri + shari for another inspiring joy + ride.

  3. beautiful photographs, beautiful blog (and orangette is the totally yummiest blog on earth) and aren’t gin and tonics the cure all for everything…especially when its warm outside…

  4. I am late, as per my usual way… another beautiful edition of this joy + ride. March seems to be playing tricks on me.

  5. i had to have an unladylike squeal when i read about the excited dog sneeze–how sweet :O)
i’m with you molly on the going to bed late. it always happens no matter how hard i try to prevent it!
